Stand Firm

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!

Psalm 46:10

Kids I work with will come at times and tell me that some kid won’t stop chasing him/her. I usually reply that no one can chase you if you don’t run. I suggest that they just stand still and the other kid will realize that the game has ended and go away. They are seldom able to do this. I must have said that dozens of times in the years I have worked with kids but the other day, it hit me as an AH HA moment.

Isn’t this like a picture of spiritual warfare? Satan can chase, pursue, whisper, yell but if we don’t run or back down and give up, what’s he going to do?

In this verse from Psalms we are reminded that the battle isn’t ours. When we stop trying to fight the battle in our own strength and trust that as we stand and stop running that God will bring about the victory.

How do we stand firm though when the symptoms are clearly present and the diagnosis is less than desirable? We reflect on the things God has brought us through, we remember that we are not alone and that when Jesus said “It is finished” He meant that all that was necessary to restore us to health (spiritual and physical) had been done. And we can use the tactic Jesus used when He was being chased by Satan. He simply said, “It is written.”

We stand firm by standing on the Promises of God. Satan knows what they are, it behooves us to know them better than he does.

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your word and for the promises contained in there. Promises that are as true and powerful today as they were when they were first spoken. Thank You for watching over Your word to perform it in our lives. Help us to remember when Satan is chasing that we can stand firm and simply declare your word and see the power in Your word send him away. He can’t chase if we don’t run! In Jesus’s name, amen.

    1. He did conquer everything that attempts to have us live in the land called Less Than. He paid for us to live in the land of abundance! This weekend we celebrate these truths! I hope you have a blessed Easter!
