A Balanced Equation

Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.  3 John 1:2 Years ago, I had to revisit algebra in an attempt to help our son with his school work.  One thing I learned is that equations need to be balanced.  For example 2 +5 = 10-3 is a balanced equation.  You probably remember from school that what you do to one side of that equation, you have to do to the other side to keep it balanced. An equation can be unbalanced otherwise. When I looked at this … Continue reading A Balanced Equation

Glimpses of Heaven

“This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,    on earth as it is in heaven”… Matthew 6: 9-10 Years ago, when I was part of an intercessory prayer team, a mother asked us to pray for her daughter.  Her little girl was 4 and couldn’t walk.  She had numerous other issues and I forget what the diagnosis was but the prognosis was that she didn’t have long to live.  We prayed and then shared what we believed God had given us for this little girl.  Everyone shared that they saw … Continue reading Glimpses of Heaven

Wide Receivers

How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it.  Luke 13:34 Jesus is speaking here to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, lamenting the fact that they would not receive Him.   This is hard to imagine and yet, too often, I am guilty of the same. I think that the inability to receive still keeps Jesus at arms lengths. A giver, no matter how unlimited his resources can only give what the receiver can and will take in.  Most children are good receivers. Offer children a … Continue reading Wide Receivers

Angels Rejoicing

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15:7 Some years ago, I went to the Healing Rooms to have people pray for me. I had had chronic pain for the majority of the past two decades. Two wonderful women prayed for me and one told me that while she was praying for me, she saw the angels in heaven rejoicing over my healing. She was all excited about that and I tried to be but … Continue reading Angels Rejoicing

Hope

“Behold,” he wrote, “a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” Isaiah 7:14 A few days ago, we celebrated the first Sunday of Advent. Advent means arrival or coming and refers to the coming of Christ. The first candle lit on the advent wreath is the candle of hope. This past week as I was trying to come up with a way to explain hope that the children would understand (I teach Sunday School) I was coming up with little more than frustration. But then I saw hope that I could explain to them. … Continue reading Hope

Jesus is the Answer

Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe in Me also. John 14:1 Why God, why? When God, when? How God, how? Where God, where? Ever cry out to God with questions like that? I certainly have. One night during a time of chronic pain that lasted years, I had this dream: I was sitting down face to face with Jesus. I was asking him all my questions about healing. He patiently answered every single one and it took a very long time. I knew I would never be able to remember all of this and I really wanted to because it … Continue reading Jesus is the Answer

The Cart Before the Horse

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it,and it will be yours. Mark 11:24 If I had a dollar for every time I read this verse or heard teaching on it, I could take every one of you who reads this to Starbuck’s for a coffee! Don’t head out just yet … I said IF! But the other day, I got it. Call it revelation or an AH HA! moment, but I realized how my thinking had been wrong in this area. Oh, I believe that I am healed; that it is a done deal. … Continue reading The Cart Before the Horse

Never Shaken

My hope is in you, GodI am steadfast, I will not be movedI’m anchored, never shaken. All my hope is in you. William Matthews Hope. We sing the song “Hope’s Anthem” by William Matthews often at church. We are fast approaching the Christmas season where the word ‘hope’ is tossed around quite a bit. And yet, we also find that depression is more common during this season than others. So even though we talk about hope, some people don’t have much, if any. Due to pandemic issues, I will admit that this year as we head into Christmas, I am not overly hopeful. … Continue reading Never Shaken

Perfect Peace

You keep everyone in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because they place their trust in You. Isaiah 26:3 Perfect peace during a pandemic? Is this even possible? This verse (not the reality of my current experience) leads me to believe that it is possible. Which begs the question – how? I don’t know about you but I have had to turn off the news, stay away from Facebook and disengage from conversations around the hot topics. I don’t have answers and neither do the news reporters, the politicians and people who want to spend countless hours speculating … Continue reading Perfect Peace

The Girdled Tree

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1 I have never had to have a tree removed. I don’t need to because I have a puppy who has destroyed three already. The trees were young, and she was young, and I hoped they would outgrow her—but that wasn’t the case. I am no expert, but even I could tell that the tree was dead. The leaves were gone and the branches chewed off. I have heard of a method for killing off invasive or unwanted trees called girdling. Girdling is done by stripping off … Continue reading The Girdled Tree
