Blowing In The Wind

At the beginning I declare the outcome;    from of old, things not yet done.I say that my plan shall stand,    I accomplish my every desire. Isaiah 46:10 As a young teenager, some of my fondest memories are of my older sister teaching me to play guitar. We didn’t ordinarily spend a good deal of time together so when we did, it was special to me. One song she taught me and we sang together was Bob Dylan’s Blowing In The Wind. I love that song and it is probably just as relevant today as it was then. In case you aren’t familiar … Continue reading Blowing In The Wind

Communion

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying,  “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19 I had a conversation with a woman today who has had torn rotary cuffs for years. I should say, I attempted to have a conversation with her. All I actually did was listen. She went into her narrative and I wasn’t given an opportunity to say anything. All my efforts were ignored as she continued on with her story. This is an observation not a judgment, please do not hear me … Continue reading Communion

Sorry Not Today

You know that God anointed Jesus from Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Jesus went everywhere and did good things, such as healing everyone who was under the devil’s power. Jesus did these things because God was with him. Acts 10:38 I’ve looked. I can’t find it. Nowhere in the Bible, to my knowledge, does Jesus tell someone, “sorry, not today.”  Nowhere do I see Him turning away someone who needed healing and saying sorry, I can’t help you today. What I do read is that He went everywhere healing and doing good things and setting people free … Continue reading Sorry Not Today

Something New

Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? Isaiah 43:18-19 I have made the mistake of looking back. Looking back at times when God healed me, instantly and not so instantly. I’ve even looked back on days when my walk with the Lord was more spontaneous, more joyful than it is right now and yearned for a return to those days.  Then I read this verse and am encouraged to look ahead, to whatever the something … Continue reading Something New

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

When I remember Thee on my bed, I meditate on Thee in the night watches, For Thou hast been my help, and in the shadow of Thy wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to Thee; Thy right hand upholds me. Psalm 63: 6-8 What are the thoughts that run through your mind when you lay down to sleep at night?  Mine used to be tormenting.  And to be honest here, sometimes, they still are. I would review my day trying to find the link between something I ate or didn’t eat, some supplement I took or didn’t take, … Continue reading Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

A Balanced Equation

Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.  3 John 1:2 Years ago, I had to revisit algebra in an attempt to help our son with his school work.  One thing I learned is that equations need to be balanced.  For example 2 +5 = 10-3 is a balanced equation.  You probably remember from school that what you do to one side of that equation, you have to do to the other side to keep it balanced. An equation can be unbalanced otherwise. When I looked at this … Continue reading A Balanced Equation

Wide Receivers

How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it.  Luke 13:34 Jesus is speaking here to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, lamenting the fact that they would not receive Him.   This is hard to imagine and yet, too often, I am guilty of the same. I think that the inability to receive still keeps Jesus at arms lengths. A giver, no matter how unlimited his resources can only give what the receiver can and will take in.  Most children are good receivers. Offer children a … Continue reading Wide Receivers

Angels Rejoicing

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15:7 Some years ago, I went to the Healing Rooms to have people pray for me. I had had chronic pain for the majority of the past two decades. Two wonderful women prayed for me and one told me that while she was praying for me, she saw the angels in heaven rejoicing over my healing. She was all excited about that and I tried to be but … Continue reading Angels Rejoicing

Secondary Barrenness

Our first attempt at having a child ended in miscarriage.   This was 1995.  It was a devastating loss and as I lay on the sofa one day healing, the Holy Spirit said, “Get up and go to ORU”.   We lived in Tulsa at the time just about a mile from Oral Roberts University and so I got up and made the drive. Once there, having no further instructions, I went to the gift store.  There was no one there.  I walked around looking at the items for sale and wondered what my next move was to be.  Shortly, a … Continue reading Secondary Barrenness

God’s Economy

Years ago, when I lived in Montana, I had a wonderful gelding named Apache. The whole family loved that horse. Anyone could ride him; he was totally trustworthy. I especially liked taking him out on short jaunts in the woods. Fearless, smart and oh, how he loved to run, but there was one thing he would not do. He would not jump over anything. No, not ever, which most of the time was fine. But sometimes, in the woods, when a tree had fallen across the trail our ride would have been much nicer if he would have just jumped … Continue reading God’s Economy
