Full Moon

God’s Message, from the God who lights up the day with sun and     brightens the night with moon and stars, Who whips the ocean into a billowy froth,     whose name is God-of-the-Angel-Armies: “If this ordered cosmos ever fell to pieces, fell into chaos before me”—God’s Decree— “Then and only then might Israel fall apart and disappear as a nation before me.” Jeremiah 31:35-36 A few days ago, there was full moon. We watched it rise, starting out huge and yellow as it made its way up the night sky, getting smaller and whiter in appearance. I was reminded of this … Continue reading Full Moon

Unlimited Asking

The best way to be sure your prayer is answered… is to pray!  God challenges you to do unlimited asking.  To the one in need of salvation, He says, “Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37) To the one in need of healing, He says, “I will come and heal him” (Matthew 8:7) To the one tormented by fear or dogged by failure, He says,”Come unto me…and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28) To the one who is slave to habit, He says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye … Continue reading Unlimited Asking

God’s Memory

Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more. Hebrews 10:17 God’s memory seems to be selective as, no doubt, is ours.  He has chosen to name the stars and remember their names, He has chosen to count the numbers of hairs on my head and remember that.  He has remembered His covenant with His people and remembered my name. And your name. But He has chosen to remember my sins and your sins no more.  Wow!  Who does that?  I mean, don’t we all have people in our lives who are all to willing to remind us of our … Continue reading God’s Memory

It Will Be Well

And he (her husband) said, “Why will you go to him (the prophet) today?  It is neither new moon nor sabbath?”  And she said, “It will be well.”  II Kings 4:23 We aren’t told her name.  Only that she was a Shunnamite and had no child.  Elisha the prophet told her she would have a child and sure enough, she did.  The story tells us that when the child was grown, he developed a headache and died in his mother’s lap.  She laid the boy on Elisha’s bed and set out to find the prophet.  She told her … Continue reading It Will Be Well

Swinging Bridge

Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 When I was 24 years old, I had three children under the age of 5. I was living in Montana miles and miles removed from my family in Texas. My husband, their father, was seldom home and not very helpful when he was home. I felt alone; I was alone. I had this recurring dream.  In this dream, I was … Continue reading Swinging Bridge

The Unexpected, Unplanned, Undeserved Interruption

My husband was shot six days after we were married. It was an accident; the gun wasn’t supposed to be loaded. We never really found out how it happened. There were too many people with too much to drink and too many guns and the sheriff never told us the results of the ballistics test. We were with a group of friends at a hunting cabin in the piney woods of East Texas for the weekend. We came to hunt armadillos and squirrels. We had returned from the woods with just enough squirrels for dinner. Donny and some others were … Continue reading The Unexpected, Unplanned, Undeserved Interruption
