Ridiculousness

A cheerful heart is good medicine but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22 Maybe you’ve seen it.  Ridiculousness. Maybe not. I wouldn’t have it if I didn’t have a son  that loves the show.  It’s a more grown-up version of America’s Funniest Videos and it makes us laugh. Good, deep, belly laughs. Utter ridiculousness and utterly hilarious.  Good medicine. Doctors have found that laughter helps blood flow, may raise the level of infection-fighting antibodies in the body and boost the levels of immune cells, may lower blood sugar levels and aids with relaxation and sleep according to … Continue reading Ridiculousness

Beloved

“I have called you by name, from the very beginning. You are mine and I am yours. You are my Beloved, on you my favor rests. I have molded you together in your mother’s womb. I have carved you in the palms of my hands and hidden you in the shadow of my embrace. I look at you with infinite tenderness and care for you with a care more intimate than that of a mother for her child. I have counted every hair on your head and guided you at every step. Wherever you go, I go with you, and … Continue reading Beloved

Sorry Not Today

You know that God anointed Jesus from Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Jesus went everywhere and did good things, such as healing everyone who was under the devil’s power. Jesus did these things because God was with him. Acts 10:38 I’ve looked. I can’t find it. Nowhere in the Bible, to my knowledge, does Jesus tell someone, “sorry, not today.”  Nowhere do I see Him turning away someone who needed healing and saying sorry, I can’t help you today. What I do read is that He went everywhere healing and doing good things and setting people free … Continue reading Sorry Not Today

Freebie

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24 I placed a cart out on my front lawn near the sidewalk and taped a sign on it that read “FREE” and then waited. Fairly soon, a man pulled up and looked the cart over and under and then came and knocked on my door. He wanted to give me some money for it. I told him it was free. Turns out, he is a neighbor who does lawn work for a living. My front yard had been … Continue reading Freebie

If Only God Would

Moses responded, “Then show me Your glorious presence.” Exodus 33:18 Moses had been given the unenviable task of leading God’s people to the Promised Land. God assured Moses that he would not be going alone, God would be with him and would look favorably upon him. But Moses wanted more. Maybe he was thinking something like, “Maybe I could do this if God would only __________.” Moses filled in that blank with “show me Your glorious presence.” When called to go through something difficult or stretching, what would you fill in that blank with? Heal me, make my path straight, make my … Continue reading If Only God Would

It Will Be Well

And he (her husband) said, “Why will you go to him (the prophet) today?  It is neither new moon nor sabbath?”  And she said, “It will be well.”  II Kings 4:23 We aren’t told her name.  Only that she was a Shunnamite and had no child.  Elisha the prophet told her she would have a child and sure enough, she did.  The story tells us that when the child was grown, he developed a headache and died in his mother’s lap.  She laid the boy on Elisha’s bed and set out to find the prophet.  She told her … Continue reading It Will Be Well
