But He answered and said, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’”
Matthew 4:4
Recently, I took Ding Dongs to work for a treat for the children. Before serving them though I tried to explain the statement – you are what you eat. They were nodding their heads up and down as I told of the reasons that eating healthy foods can fuel our bodies better than sugary, unhealthy foods. I explained that like a car that needs gas to keep going our bodies need fuel from healthy foods to have energy for the day. I made a point of saying that while we all love cookies and cake and ice cream that they may not be the best choice on a regular basis. I thought they were picking up what I was putting down because of the silent head nodding.
They I told them I brought in Ding Dongs and asked who wanted one? Hands shot up all over the room! They all laughed about how they would all look as a Ding Dong. How easy it is to chose what doesn’t lead to health over what does.
I have pursued diving healing for many years. I tend at times to think I have heard the teachings, I don’t need more. I have memorized healing scriptures and confessed them. I don’t confess them daily, I must admit. Perhaps this could be part of why all of the healing God has promised me hasn’t yet manifested.
So, if faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God, it begs the question, how much am I feeding on His Word? If Ding Dongs had the power to heal me, believe me I would be eating them all day long! But they don’t. God’s Word does have that power so how much time am I feeding on it? Am I allowing busyness and distractions to keep me from filling up on the best or am I filling up on social media, news, movies (don’t get me wrong, I am not saying these are bad) but seriously, what healing have they brought us lately?
I am purposing to spend more time filling up on the word, be it reading the Bible, listening to teaching tapes or reading Bible teaching books. I believe my healing might depend upon that.
How about you? Are you in need of a healing? How about together we feed on the Word of God?
I would to hear from you.
Heavenly Father, how many times have I chosen Ding Dongs instead of the life giving Words You have given me? Forgive me for nodding my head up and down in silent seemingly agreement when Your Word is preached and then going about my day as though I have eaten enough. I want my healing to manifest but more importantly, I want to be filled with Your goodness, grace and mercy and Your Word. Please let Your Word flow out of me to the people in my life that need more of You, in Jesus’s name, amen.
