The Flame Flickers

The wind blows

the flame flickers

in response to the rhythm of the wind.

The wind rests

the flame becomes steady.

The wind rises

and the flame once again

flickers

in response.

The wind escalates

the flame hesitates

and dims when caught up in the rhythm of the wind.

If I am to be light in the darkness,

I can’t be moved by winds of adversity.

I must remain steady,

unflinching,

persevering or the

flame diminishes

and the darkness prevails.
