Good Plans

untitled (9)

This is God’s Word on the subject: “As soon as Babylon’s seventy years are up and not a day before,

I’ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home.

I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

Jeremiah 29:11

I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I go through difficult times, I tend to think it is because of something I have done or failed to do.  And, in all honesty, sometimes it is.  There are consequences to our actions, like it or not.  Sometimes things happen to us just because we are human and living in a fallen world and sometimes it’s because we are under attack from the enemy of our soul.  And sometimes, it is because of our wrong beliefs.

I love this passage from Jeremiah.  I particularly like this in the Message Bible.  The people God is speaking to are His people and they had been taken captive by their enemies.  They had failed to follow God’s commandments and failed to put Him first and after repeated warnings that they did not heed, God allowed them to be taken into captivity.  The good news of this verse is that there is an appointed day of deliverance.  God promises to show up to take care of them and to bring them back home.  To give them the good future they hoped for.

Whatever the trial you may be going through – sickness, loss of employment, addiction, disease, broken relationships, God knows what He is doing in your life and there is an appointed day of deliverance for you and for me.  These trials have an end date.  God promises that He won’t abandon us, that He will bring us back to our home – that place where all is well for us and we are not longer under the thumb of the enemy.  He promises us a good future; the future we hoped for.

Have you given up hoping for a good future?  Are you in bondage to an enemy that you can’t free yourself from?  God knows the date of your deliverance from the pain, the trial, the testing.  He has it all planned out.  That’s good news isn’t it?

Jesus, I love that You love me.  I love that You have good plans for me, plans that far exceed anything I could ever hope for, plans that You will bring to pass in my life.  I thank You that You know the end from the beginning, You alone know how this story plays out.  Be big in my life and have Your way in me, I ask in Jesus’ name, amen.

I would love to hear from you. Please let me know if I can pray for you as well.

  1. I love the context of that verse. I talk about this one a lot in my Bible classes with the kids…after their worst nightmare had come true – and it was their own fault, God still had good plans for them. Thanks for the reminder about the appointed time! So true! That encourages me!
